COVID-19: Travel Restrictions Portugal

Prohibited flights

All flights to and from countries outside the EU, the Schengen Area or the United Kingdom except to and from the following countries which have a positive epidemiological assessment:

Algeria, Canada, China, South Korea, Morocco, Tunisia.

Authorized flights, where passengers must present a negative test to Covid-19, carried out within 72 hours prior to boarding

Flights to and from Portuguese speaking countries [from Brazil, only flights from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro] and the USA, exclusively for essential travels

“Essential travels” are those intended to allow transit through exit from or entry into Portugal of:

• - Nationals from the EU, Schengen area and their family members;
• - Third-country nationals legally residing in an EU Member-State;
• - Third-country nationals travelling for business, study, family gathering, health or humanitarian reasons.

Authorized flights, where passengers do not need to present a negative test

To and from EU countries, Schengen associated countries and the United Kingdom

To and from countries with a positive epidemiological assessment:

-         Algeria

-         Canada

-         China

-         South Korea

-         Morocco

-         Tunisia

To and from countries authorized by Order of the Government [to be published]

As previously mentioned, the flight ban does not apply to flights intended to allow nationals or holders of residence permits in Portugal to return to their respective countries, or to flights intended to allow foreign nationals in Portugal to return to their respective countries, provided that the flights are promoted by the competent authorities, subject to prior request and agreement and in compliance with the principle of reciprocity.

In what concerns the obligation to provide a negative test result, carried out in the 72 hours prior to boarding, national citizens or citizens with legal residence in national territory who do not present such test, will be sent to perform the test.

The same applies to the other passengers that are obliged to present the test but, in case they refuse, their entry into national territory will be refused.
